Importance of Bear Safety

The recent bear attacks serve as a reminder of the importance of bear safety. Anyone spending time in bear country should take the following precautions:

  • Carry bear spray and know how to use it.
  • Make noise while hiking or camping to avoid surprising a bear.
  • Store food and other items that may attract bears securely.
  • Never approach a bear, even if it appears to be dead.
  • If you encounter a bear, stay calm and slowly back away.

By following these precautions, you can help reduce your risk of being attacked by a bear.
